Overnight stays in hotel establishments increase 6.2%* in August, as compared with the same month in 2010
During the month of August, 41.5 million overnight stays were recorded in hotel establishments, indicating a 6.2% increase, as compared with the same month in 2010. Overnight stays by residents decreased 1.4%, while non-resident stays increased 12.2%.The average stay increased 0.5% standing at 3.9 nights per guest.
In the period comprised of July and August, overnight stays increased 7.5% as compared with the same period of 2010. Overnight stays by resident guests decreased 0.2%, while by non-residents increased 13.1%.
During the first eight months of the year, overnight stays increased 7.1%, as compared with the same period the previous year.
In turn, the Hotel Price Index (HPI) registered a 1.8% increase, this rate being 2.4 points higher than that registered in August 2010. Regarding the indicators on the profitability of the hotel sector, invoicing per occupied room reached an average value of 81.8 euros (1.8 euros more than one year ago), and income per available room stood at 59.4 euros (3.5 euros more).
72.3% of the available bed places were filled in August, indicating an 3.3% increase as compared with the same month the previous year. The weekend occupancy rate by bed places stood at 75.3%, with an increase of 2.7%.
