Flights to and from Spain resume

Flights between Spain and the countries in the no-fly zone because of the Icelandic  volcanic ash commenced this morning and are slowly getting back to normal, although many flights have been cancelled and ther are considerable delays. 

From 8.30 am , 54 flights had left Spain for destinations in northern Europe that have been closed over the past few days. 

Airspace still remains partially closed in Germany, the UK, France, Denmark, Sweden and Finland, with the main airports now open on the whole, but not operating all the scheduled flights.  Budget airline Ryanair has said it will not start operating flights until tomorrow.  2,020 flights were scheduled for today between Spain and the affected countries, but surprisingly only 323 have already been cancelled  so far but with more cancellations  expected.

482 flights are due to leave Madrid-Barajas today with destinations in northern Europe and so far only 15 have taken off.  No flights have left for Germany yet, and 20 of the 69 scheduled to leave today have already been cancelled. 

There is a similar situation with the 67 flights to the UK due to leave today to go to the major airports at Malaga in the Costa del Sol, Alicante in the Costa Blanca, San Javier for the Costa Calida and Murcia and Barcelona for the Costa Brava  – of which only 1 has taken off and 7 have been cancelled.  

Pound strengthens – Spain now 8 per cent cheaper for Brits to buy property

We have reason to be grateful to the strengthening pound vs the euro!  This means that Spain has become 8 per cent cheaper for Brits to buy property over the last twelve months. Over the same period it is reported that searches for Spanish property have risen by 48 per cent and 341 per cent since December 2008. Ann Wright from Primelocation.com says: “Interest in overseas property has shot up in recent months. With the green shoots of recovery evident in the  recovery in the UK property market and economy and the resulting upturn in consumer confidence this appears to have resulted in a knock-on effect on the overseas market.” The National Association of Estate Agents International recently advised  that buyers who would like to invest in  Spanish real estate should buy in the early part of 2010 suggesting that prices are hitting bottom and buyers need to act now to snap up the bargain key ready villas and apartments on the Costa del Sol, Costa Blanca and Costa Calida.
